Approve and Install CultureBot in Microsoft Teams (for IT Admins)
CultureBot needs one approval from your Microsoft 365 administrator before it can work for your whole company. This page covers that approval and how to install CultureBot for everyone at once.
What You Need
- A Global Administrator account in Microsoft 365. A Teams administrator can allow and install CultureBot, but only a Global Administrator can approve its permissions.
Why CultureBot Asks for These Permissions
The approval lets CultureBot read your company directory (names, work email addresses, job titles and photos) so it knows who works there, add itself to a person's Teams when it has a message for them, and create the small group chats it uses for Employee Intros. CultureBot does not read your channel conversations. Getting Started on Microsoft Teams lists what it can and cannot see.
How to Approve and Install CultureBot
- Open Manage Apps: In the Teams admin center, go to Teams apps, then Manage apps, and search for CultureBot.
- Allow CultureBot: If its status shows Blocked, set it to Allowed. If third-party apps are turned off for your organization, turn them on first under Org-wide app settings.
- Approve Its Permissions: Select CultureBot, open its Permissions tab, review the permissions it requests, and select Accept. This step needs a Global Administrator.
- Install It for Everyone (Optional): On Manage apps, select CultureBot, select Edit installs, choose who should get it, and select Apply. CultureBot then appears in each person's Teams without them adding it.
- Hand Off to Whoever Runs CultureBot: That person opens CultureBot in Teams and selects the CultureBot Home tab. The first person to sign in there becomes your CultureBot admin and chooses which features to turn on.
Please note: approve CultureBot before anyone opens CultureBot Home, so your people load the first time. If your people list is still empty a day after setup, contact support@getculturebot.com.
Approving From a Link Instead
If someone at your company forwarded you an approval link from CultureBot, open it while signed in as a Global Administrator and select Accept. That grants the same permissions as step 3.
How to Tell It Worked
On Manage apps, CultureBot shows as Allowed, and its Permissions tab confirms that consent has been granted. Within a day of setup, your people appear in CultureBot's Directory.
