Create and Edit Custom Watercooler Packs

Custom Watercooler Packs

CultureBot's Watercooler feature uses packs to organize the conversation-starter questions it sends to your team. A pack is simply a named collection of questions. When a Watercooler runs, it pulls from whichever packs are assigned to that instance.

There are two types of packs: system packs (built-in question sets provided by CultureBot) and custom packs (packs you create yourself, specific to your workspace).

Creating a Custom Pack

Custom packs are managed from the CultureBot web app.

  1. Go to Watercooler and select the Custom Topics tab.
  2. Click the button to create a new pack and give it a name.
  3. Once the pack is created, expand it to start adding questions.
  4. Enter the question text for each question. You can optionally assign a topic label to help organize questions within the pack.
  5. Repeat for as many questions as you'd like. There is no enforced minimum, but a larger question pool means less repetition before the cycle resets.

Assigning a Pack to a Watercooler Instance

Packs are assigned at the instance level, so each Watercooler you run can pull from a different combination of packs.

  1. When creating or editing a Watercooler instance, open the configuration modal.
  2. Locate the Packs / Topics section.
  3. Select one or more packs. You can mix system packs and custom packs in the same instance.
  4. Save the instance.

If your workspace runs multiple Watercooler instances, each one can have its own pack selection.

How Questions Are Drawn

When a Watercooler sends, CultureBot pulls from all questions across the assigned packs, filters out questions already sent to avoid repeats, and randomly selects from what remains. Once every question in the assigned packs has been sent at least once, the history resets and the cycle starts over.

Note: AI-generated prompts are tracked separately and are not part of the standard rotation.

Editing and Deleting Packs

To rename a pack, open it in the Custom Topics tab and edit the name inline.

To edit a question, expand the pack, locate the question, and update the text.

To delete a question, use the delete action next to it. Deletion is permanent.

To delete a pack, use the delete action on the pack itself. This will permanently delete the pack and all questions inside it. If the pack is assigned to an active Watercooler instance, those questions will no longer be available to that instance.

A Few Things to Know

Custom packs are workspace-scoped. Packs you create are only visible to your workspace and cannot be shared with or accessed by other workspaces.

If you have a large number of questions to add, you can send them to support@getculturebot.com as a spreadsheet and we'll import them for you.

The Intros feature also supports Watercooler packs for conversation starters. The same pack management flow applies.
