Setting Up the Manager Digest
Managers often want to know if someone on their team has a birthday coming up, hit a work anniversary, or got recognized by a peer. The Manager Digest feature through CultureBot proactively sends each manager a Slack message covering their direct reports, so they never miss a beat.
Each digest can include:
- Birthdays coming up for the manager's direct reports
- Work Anniversaries coming up, with how many years each person is celebrating
- Shoutouts their direct reports sent or received since the last digest, with points and a link to the original Slack message
Please note: the Manager Digest is available on all plans for Slack workspaces.
Before You Start
CultureBot knows who reports to whom from the manager field in your employee directory. Any manager with at least one active direct report receives a digest. If that field is empty or out of date, see Importing Employee Data into the Directory to fill it in first.
How to Set Up the Manager Digest
- Open Manager Digest: In the CultureBot web app, choose Manager Digest from the left menu, then Settings.
- Turn It On: Switch on Enable Manager Digest.
- Choose A Frequency: Pick Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or a custom interval of 1 to 13 weeks. Monthly and quarterly digests send on the 1st of the month or quarter.
- Set The Day And Time: Choose the Time of Day, and for weekly or custom intervals, the Day of Week. Times follow your company's timezone, shown next to the time picker.
- Pick What To Include: Under Include in digest, check Birthdays, Anniversaries, Shoutouts, or any combination. At least one is required.
Changes save automatically. The first digests go out at the next scheduled day and time.
What Do Managers See?
Each manager receives the digest as a direct message from CultureBot. Birthdays and anniversaries look ahead from the send day, and shoutouts look back over the period since the last digest. A View digest details button opens the full digest in the web app.
Anonymous shoutouts stay anonymous in the digest. If a manager's team has no shoutouts and no upcoming celebrations for the period, that manager does not receive a digest.
Can a Manager Opt Out?
No. The Manager Digest is on or off for your whole company, and individual managers cannot opt out. If managers find it too frequent, change the Frequency to Monthly, Quarterly, or a longer custom interval.
Send a Digest Now
To send one manager a digest right away, open the Run Now tab. Choose the manager, the sections, and the date ranges (up to 93 days each), then choose whether it goes to the manager, to you, or to both, and click Run digest. This works even while the scheduled digest is turned off, and it does not affect the regular schedule.
See What Was Sent
The Digests tab lists every digest sent, with the manager, the period covered, and when it went out. Digests sent from Run Now are marked Ad hoc. Click any row to open that digest.
