How to Opt Out of or Snooze Employee Intros

You can leave employee intros at any time without waiting for CultureBot to ask. This article covers how:

Exclusions are set per intro instance. Your team may run the employee intros feature in more than one channel/instance, so you may want to consider opting out of each instance.

Opt Yourself Out of Intros in Slack

Every intro message ends with the line Want to pause or skip yourself from being included in these introductions? The home tab link in that line takes you to the right place.

You can also open CultureBot from your Slack sidebar.

  1. Open CultureBot In Slack: Click the home tab link at the bottom of any intro message, or find CultureBot in your Slack sidebar under Apps and click the Home tab.
  2. Scroll To Employee Introductions: Under that section, find the line reading Edit your snoozed / excluded intros and click Edit.
  3. Check The Exclude Box: The Intro snoozes & excludes window lists every active intro pairing in your workspace. Check Exclude me in this intro pairing under each one you want to leave.

Each box saves the moment you check it, and the text above it changes to confirm you are excluded. To rejoin later, return to the same place and uncheck the box.

Please note: Microsoft Teams has no home tab. On Teams, each intro message carries a card with Snooze until date and Exclude me from future pairings buttons. Use those instead.

Snooze Instead of Opting Out

Each pairing in that same window has a Snooze all new intros until date picker. Choose a date and CultureBot skips you until it passes, then includes you again automatically. This is the better option for parental leave, a busy quarter, or a long stretch of travel.

Please note, the date picker applies only to the particular intros instance it sits under. If your workspace has multiple instances running, you may want to enter a date under each pairing you want to pause.

Leave the Intros Channel Instead

Pairings are built from whoever is in the intros channel at the moment they go out, so leaving the channel takes you out of the rotation too.

Excluding yourself from the home tab is the better option if you want to stay in the channel, and you can reverse it from the same window.

How to Remove Someone From Intros as an Admin

Employees often ask an admin to handle this for them. You can either remove them using the instructions below in the Slack app, or go to the CultureBot Web Portal > Intro Instances and edit the instance of your choosing.

  1. Open The Employee Intros Section: In Slack, open CultureBot, click the Home tab, and go to Employee Intros.
  2. Edit The Instance: Find the intro instance for the channel in question and click ✏️ Edit/Delete.
  3. Add Them To The Exclude List: In the Intros Instance window, scroll to Select people to exclude and choose the person. The change saves as soon as you pick them, with no separate save button, and their name stays listed there so you can check it later.
  4. Check The Other Pairings: Repeat for any other intro pairing that includes this person. Someone in three intro channels needs excluding three times.

Please note: partial admins only see intro pairings they created themselves. If the pairing you need was set up by a colleague, you will not find it in your view. Ask a full admin to make the change, or send the employee the steps above so they can opt themselves out. See Permissions Guide: Full Admins v. Partial Admins.

Why CultureBot Sometimes Asks Employees Directly

On pairings set to every 8 or 12 weeks, CultureBot watches for employees who have stopped engaging. Once someone has been paired at least three times and has not confirmed a meeting across the last three rounds, they get a direct message asking whether they want to stay included, snooze until a date, or opt out for good. Answering it has the same effect as the steps above.

Pairings that run weekly or every 2, 3, or 4 weeks do not send this message. On those, use one of the methods above rather than waiting to be asked.
